I recently had the opportunity to photograph my biggest event yet (1,200 attendees!) This event titled “Saltburn, the Party” produced by Chlomosexual took place at 3 Dollar Bill. It featured vendors, performers, and a great lineup of DJs. When I first saw the flyer for this event, I knew I had to be there and was considering bringing my camera to capture some photos to add to my portfolio. Since I knew one of the hosts and I would hate to overstep, I asked them if there would be a photographer at the event and if it was okay if I brought my camera. To my surprise I got a message from the producer asking for my rates and if I would be able to be the official event photographer.
The day of the event was so much fun! I got ready with some friends as we all put together our Saltburn-themed outfits. One thing about queer people is we will go all out for a theme! It also helped that the film had become our entire personalities since seeing it in theaters. I mean, I even got an eyebrow piercing because of Jacob Elordi. We got there early and there was already a line down the block! Luckily, since I was working I got to skip the line and go right in. The energy was AMAZING! The music was great, the place was packed, and everyone looked AMAZING!
When I left at 2 am, I could not get rid of the smile on my face. The second I got home, I started editing. I gave myself five hours of sleep and then got right back to it so I could share the images before my plans that night celebrating a friend’s birthday. There is something about queer nightlife that reminds my why I love this work.
